At Formscape Global creating diverse structures is a form that molds the concepts of science effectively with an artistic approach.
To create safe, sound, effective, and robust structures, we use a structural design methodology. Our team of engineers guarantees the development of secure, enduring, and effective structures that abide by the necessary norms and requirements by using this methodology.
After artistically finalizing the system, the science of structural analysis and designing the framework is applied to utilize cutting-edge computer hardware and software. Before converting the analysis and design output results into a drawing form, those results are extensively cross-checked. An evaluation of the structural design requires several stages and considerations in order to ensure that it meets all requirements and standards.
Services
Concrete Structures
This includes design of residential and commercial complexes, shopping malls, high-rise buildings, educational and institutional buildings, multiplex theatres, hotels, hospitals, industrial buildings and stadiums.
While designing concrete structures, focus is on optimization of concrete strength utilization considering concrete’s characteristic of being strong in compression and weak in tension. Accordingly, various systems compared are:
- Moment resisting frames
- Shear walled structures
- Braced frames
- Flat slab with shear walls
- Irregular concrete space frames
- Combinations of above
Design services are offered as per IS 456.
Steel Structures
This includes design of multi-storey buildings, industrial buildings, stadia structures, atriums and entrance canopies, multilevel car parking, indoor swimming pools, auditoriums and theatres.
Steel being strong in compression and tension, while weak against buckling when slender, attempts are made to exploit the favourable qualities and safeguard against weaknesses while finalizing the structural system. Usual systems being adopted are,
- Moment resisting frames
- Braced frames
- Trusses
- Portal frames using standard rolled sections
- Portal frames using built-up sections and lattice portal frames
Design services are offered as per IS 800.
Composite Structures
This includes structures comprising of more than one structural material and all those becoming part of a carefully conceived single structural system. These are mainly applied to industrial buildings, stadium structures and multi-storey buildings.
Having proper understanding of strength and weaknesses of each structural material, while conceiving a structural system, attempts are made to distribute the structural materials such that their strength utilization is optimized. Systems being adopted are:
- Steel roof with concrete substructure
- Steel frame with concrete deck in multi-storey buildings
Design services are offered as per IS.
Liquid Retaining Structures
Design of concrete liquid retaining structures is carried out for strength at ultimate limit state while restricting the crack width to permissible limit at serviceability limit state. Steel liquid retaining structures are mainly confined to oil and water storage tanks.
Design expertise and experience comprises of,
- Ground level water tanks
- Water treatment
- Sewage treatment plants
- Sewage and water pumping stations
- Deep basements
- Swimming pools
Design services are offered as per IS 3370.
Machine Foundations
This includes design of:
- Block type foundations
- Reciprocating machinery
- Impact hammers
- Framed type foundations for high speed machinery
- Foundations for rotary type machines, fans and blowers, looms, and machines installed on building floors
- Vibration isolation
Design services are offered as per IS 2974.
Value Engineering
Value engineering is a systematic method to improve the “value” of goods or products. When applied to structural design, the structure being designed is a product. Value, as defined, is the ratio of function to cost. Value can therefore be increased by either improving the function or reducing the cost. For structures, the desired functions are well defined by design standards and hence value engineering primarily targets equivalent performance for lower cost.
For building projects 35 % and for infrastructure projects almost 80 % of the project cost goes to structural work. Structural cost optimization through value engineering helps to bring down the project cost to a great extent. In this context, value engineering is an integral part of structural designing and focus is always on to design a safe and yet economical structure.
This is achieved through:
- Use of alternative structural materials for optimum material strength utilization
- Conceiving innovative structural solutions
- Comparison of different possible structural systems
Proof Checking of Structural Design
For projects with contractor’s own design or for projects of very important nature, structural design scrutiny by a proof consultant is must. Proof checking services offered include:
- Study of tender documents and technical specifications adopted for the project.
- Structural design and drawings scrutiny for:
- Compliance with provisions of tender documents and technical specifications.
- Compliance with provisions of country specific design standards.
- Conformity between design calculations and drawings
- Detailing, clarity of details, and drawing content with respect to ease of execution on site
- Site supervision, if required
Preparation of Technical Drawings
Our detailing unit is providing drafting services for civil, structural and infrastructural drawings. Based on a template and design data provided by the client, we are able to provide top-notch quality technical drawings which the client can confidently release for execution.
For detailing of various structural elements and specifically the joints, country specific detailing standards shall be followed. It shall be possible to prepare drawings in either of the following manner.
- Following the client specific drawing standards and templates
- Following the drawing standards and templates developed by Formscape Engineers LLP for various types of structures
You can have a look at Sample Drawings for various categories of structures
